Well-Being

Beauty that protects

Beauty, well-being and health are intertwined. Taking care of your hair, protecting your skin, expressing your beauty... Across cultures and eras, cosmetics have always addressed these fundamental needs. In ancient Egypt, oils, ointments, and makeup were already being used for their protective and beautifying properties. Today, L'Oréal Groupe carries on this tradition by developing safe and effective formulas at the forefront of innovation. From cutting-edge sun protection to expert skincare and ultra-gentle hair care formulas, health is definitely anchored in L'Oréal Groupe’s DNA.

As early as 1909, our founder, Eugène Schueller, prioritized health when he introduced the first safer synthetic hair dye. This pioneering commitment has guided our research throughout of the years – the launch, one century later, of  Inoa (2009), the very first ammonia-free hair color, echoes this original vision!

Sun protection is another iconic example of the vital link between beauty and health. Recognizing that skin is our first line of defense against external aggressors, we relentlessly innovate to offer you optimal protection against the harmful effects of UV rays.

L'Oréal Groupe has come a long way since the 1935 launch of Ambre Solaire, the world's first sunscreen. In 2024, we introduce Rénergie Nano-Resurfacer, a Lancôme innovation that harnesses nanotechnology for even more effective protection against the visible signs of ageing.

GARNIER AMBRE SOLAIRE - 1935

First ever effective sunscreen protection, Ambre Solaire is one of L’Oréal Groupe’s most iconic products. Created in 1935, it has been accompanying consumers for almost 90 years. A keen sailor, Eugène Schueller often suffered from sunburn.

After trying all the available oils on the market, he found none met his needs. A new challenge was presented to the chemist: how to block the sun’s harmful rays while still allowing for a tan. With Ambre Solaire, he achieved both a scientific and a marketing success, exemplified by the 1948 campaign featuring the quintessential post-war pin-up, a radiant and tanned young blonde woman named Suzy.

Ever since, L’Oréal Groupe has continuously innovated to offer effective and pleasant-to-use sun protection.

LA ROCHE-POSAY ANTHELIOS UVMUNE 400 - 2022

Launched in 2022, UVMune 400 builds on L’Oréal Groupe’s long-standing legacy of sun protection to address a major public health issue: how to protect skin from the deep, invisible damage caused by ultra-long UVA rays. These rays, a leading cause of skin aging and skin cancer, are particularly difficult to filter with traditional sunscreens.

UVMune 400 represents a major breakthrough, a result of decades of research and development that led to the creation of a new generation filter, Mexoryl 400. This revolutionary technology allows UVMune 400 to effectively filter up to 30% more UV rays, including ultra-long UVA rays.
