Let’s Recycle In Beauty

L'Oréal’s initiative to help consumers sort their beauty products

As raw materials become increasingly scarce, it is essential to recycle packaging as much as possible and limit material waste.

The "Let's recycle in beauty" initiative aims to support consumers by giving them answers on how to sort their cosmetic product packaging and inform them about the importance of recycling for our environment.
Launched in August 2018 in France by 34 of the Group’s brands, the “Let’s recycle in beauty” campaign has already been extended to several other countries in Europe, including Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Romania, Russia.

Why is sorting essential for our planet?

By sorting correctly, we improve the recycling process and the recycled materials' quality. This makes a significant difference for our planet, our well-being, and that of future generations. We contribute to the preservation of natural resources, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and create jobs. Once our products are in your hands, you too can make a difference: simple habits can change everything, and it all starts with sorting.

L’Oréal’s longstanding commitments to optimize packaging and to contribute to the development of the circular economy

Since 2007, L’Oréal has been committed to an ambitious policy regarding sustainable development including an in-depth work on eco-design and packaging optimization. Our policy is based on complementary approaches:

• Respecting the health and safety of the consumer, and biodiversity
In 2020, 100% of the paper used for product leaflets and 100% of the cardboard used for folding boxes for finished goods were certified as coming from sustainably managed forests.

• Reduce the weight and size of packaging, or remove them, and promote rechargeable or refillable systems, and multi-doses to replace single doses.

Replace some materials with less impactful materials or with recycled materials
57,096 tons of recycled materials; including 28,439 tons in primary and secondary packaging, saved the equivalent amount of virgin materials in 2020.

Accelerating our sustainable transformation with L’Oréal for the Future

In mid-2020, L'Oréal launched its new sustainability program, "L'Oréal for the Future" with ambitious new targets for 2030 that will accelerate its business model's transformation. Ensuring our activities are compatible with a resource-constrained planet is a priority, which is why we’ve made ambitious commitments on natural resources, including:

• By 2025, 100% of our plastic packaging will be refillable, recyclable, reusable, or compostable.

• By 2030, 100% of the plastic used in our packaging will be either from recycled or biobased sources (we will achieve 50% in 2025).

• By 2030, we will reduce by 20% in intensity the quantity of packaging used for our products, compared to 2019.
