Ormes Plant: Plants That Turn Sludge Into Compost
The Ormes plant in France specialises in make-up production.
The site introduced an innovative project in 2015 to process sludge at its treatment plant. The initiative involves spreading the sludge onto a garden dubbed “the planted filter”, where the plants break down the organic matter in the waste to produce humus that can be used as compost.
Once up and running at full capacity, the 1,000 sqm garden will be able to process all of the sludge from the treatment plant
