GREENTECH FESTIVAL 2023: L'Oréal presents sustainable innovations
For the third year in a row, L'Oréal will be at the GREENTECH FESTIVAL in Berlin from 14-16 June.
This year we would like to draw the attention of our stand visitors to one of our most precious resources: water.
That's why L'Oréal is presenting three approaches from industry, B2B and B2C:
With the "Waterloop Standard", we use 100% of the water in our industrial processes in a closed loop in our factories. Five of 38 factories are already working with this technology, including the factory in Settimo, which is presenting itself at the L'Oréal stand.
The award-winning "L'Oréal Water Saver", a hand shower for hairdressers, was developed together with the Swiss startup Gjosa. At the back bar, hairdressers can save up to 69% water.
The "Environmental Score" transparently reveals the water and CO2 footprint of our products. Our brands Garnier and Biotherm show how our customers can use this rating system to consume more sustainably and consciously. The Environmental Score was developed together with scientists, is externally accredited by Bureau Veritas and follows the product life cycle approach.
Our Stand
Located opposite the conference area, right at the beginning of the "Green Avenue". With silent-disco-supported bite-size talks, a VR-based factory tour and many engaged L'Oréal stakeholders, our stand invites for dialogue and exchange.

L'Oréal
We create the Beauty that moves the World.
L'Oréal, founded in science in 1909, is the leading beauty brand in the world. Our goal: Beauty for each and Beauty for all.
For us, beauty is inclusive, ethical, generous and committed to social and environmental sustainability. With our broad portfolio of 36 international brands and the ambitious sustainability commitments of our 'L'Oréal for the Future' programme, we offer the best in quality, efficacy, safety, honesty and responsibility to everyone around the world, while celebrating beauty in its infinite diversity.
With over 87,000 dedicated employees, a balanced geographic presence and sales across all distribution networks (e-commerce, mass market, department stores, pharmacies, hair salons, branded and travel retail), the Group generated sales of €38.26 billion in 2022. With 20 research centres in 11 countries worldwide and a research and innovation team of over 4,000 scientists and 5,500 tech & digital experts, L'Oréal is focused on actively shaping the future of beauty and becoming a beauty tech powerhouse.
In Germany, L'Oréal is the market leader, too. The group is represented at four locations in this country, including one of the largest L'Oréal factories (Karlsruhe) and two of the largest logistics centres (Muggensturm and Lower Rhine) worldwide. L'Oréal employs around 3,000 people in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
L’Oréal For The Future
With higher stakes must come stronger commitments: We launched the transformative “L'Oréal for the Future” programme in 2020. In three pillars, we aim to achieve two major goals – transforming our activities to respect the planet’s limits and contributing to solving the most pressing challenges of our time.
To this end, we set ourselves measurable and science-based targets by 2030 to:
- reduce our impact on climate, water, biodiversity and natural resources
- involve our entire value chain from producer to consumer
- contribute to financially supporting women in vulnerable situations, regenerating nature and promoting circular economy.
By the end of 2022, 22 of the 38 L'Oréal factories worldwide were already carbon neutral and 5 factories used 100% of their water for industrial processes in a closed loop. In Germany, all four L'Oréal sites have already been CO2 neutral since the beginning of 2021 – including the headquarters in Düsseldorf with around 900 employees as well as one of the largest L'Oréal factories and 2 of the largest L'Oréal distribution centres worldwide.
L'Oréal is the only company in the world to have been awarded a triple "A" by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2022 for the seventh consecutive year for its environmental leadership and thus for its contribution to the protection of climate, water and forests.
