L’Oréal Unveils Its Next Generation of Bold Sustainability Targets for 2030
The L'Oréal for the Future program, launched in 2020, embodies the L’Oréal Group's ambition in terms of sustainability and the conviction that companies can be part of the solution to the challenges the world is facing.
The program is built around three major strategic axes:
- Transforming our business activities to reduce the impact on climate, water, biodiversity and resources.
- Empowering its business ecosystem to transition to more sustainable world.
- Helping address the most pressing environmental and social challenges the world is facing.

Responsibility To Our planet
- Since the close of 2023, L’Oréal India has achieved 100% Renewable Energy across all its operated sites – factories, distribution centers, research and innovation centers and administrative offices (excluding safety and security installations).
- A 23% reduction in energy intensity has been achieved with a 49% increase in in-house production between 2019 -2023, decoupling business growth and environmental impact.
- 100% of L’Oréal India’s free-standing stores and point of sale materials are eco-designed since 2023.
- Through Extended Producer Responsibility, L'Oréal India collects & recycles 100% (tonnage equivalent) of the plastic used in its products
- Through Inclusive Sourcing initiatives, suppliers have been empowered to employ over 800 people from vulnerable communities.
- Purpose-driven brands: L'Oréal’s brands have also spearheaded impactful causes in India, highlighting commitment to corporate citizenship and driving positive social change.
- L’Oréal Paris StandUp combats street harassment and empowers women across India. The program has trained over 850,000 individuals to effectively address street harassment.
- Maybelline New York Brave Together mental health initiative has supported over 100,000 beneficiaries through one-on-one counseling and expert resources available via a toll-free helpline.
- Kérastase’s Power Talks has supported 360 women though mentoring programs for women, building self-confidence and empowering them to reach their full potential.
- L’Oréal Professionnel Head Up initiative promotes mental wellness among hair professionals and has supported over 98,500 hairdressers.
- Garnier Green Beauty supports collection and recycling of plastic, while enabling informal waste collectors, waste entrepreneurs, and their families to earn a stable income. Over 900T of plastic has been recycled through the initiative, empowering 15,000 community members.
- Matrix Beauty Builders, a program fostering women's entrepreneurship, has provided salon skills training to over 50 underprivileged women in rural India.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): L'Oréal India’s CSR initiatives revolve around three pillars: empowerment, education and environment. Our efforts aim to uplift marginalized communities, empower women, and foster sustainable development.
- Empowerment: Since 2014, the Beauty for a Better Life skilling program, has provided over 12,000 disadvantaged women with professional training in beauty and hairdressing skills, with 70% successfully placed in salons or self-employment. In 2024 alone, 12,000 women will be trained through the program, with a vision to skill 100,000 by 2030.
- Education: The L’Oréal India For Young Women in Science Scholarship program provides financial support to economically disadvantaged young women pursuing an education in science. Since its inception in 2015, the program has supported over 450 scholars with a commitment to support 1,000 scholars by 2030.
- In 2024, Project Udaan, another initiative under the education pillar, was launched to support the education of children from migrant families around L’Oréal’s manufacturing facilities In India. Through the initiative L’Oréal India is supporting 4,000 children in 2024 with a vision to scale to 30,000 children by 2030–providing school readiness and foundational learning skills to disadvantaged children.
- Environment: The Green Pathways project focuses on ecological restoration in the drought-prone and water-scarce Yavatmal district in Maharashtra. Since its inception in 2021, over 4,500 hectares of degraded land has been restored, enhancing water storage capacity in the region by 150 million liters, benefiting over 1,800 vulnerable farmer families with a 20% increase in income. By 2030, 10,000 hectares of land will be restored through this initiative.
