L’Oréal Malaysia and Women: girls Continue to Empower Women with 55 Beneficiaries in the Beauty For A Better Life 2023 Programme

  •  Beauty for a Better Life (BFBL) empowers women through upskilling and professional training in the hairdressing and beauty industry.
  •  Since its launch in 2016, Beauty for a Better Life has helped upskill over 150 women to improve their economic standing in Malaysia
  • For the first time, BFBL introduces a professional makeup and digital beauty module, enabling beneficiaries to use the power of social media to create opportunities.

Kuala Lumpur, 18 October 2023 – 55 Malaysian women from underprivileged background have successfully completed their professional hairdressing and makeup training in the Beauty For A Better Life 2023 programme. This meaningful collaboration between L’Oréal Malaysia and Women: girls further underscore the commitment of both partners to empower women in vulnerable situations by offering them the skills to uplift their future.

Tomas Hruska, Managing Director of L’Oréal Malaysia, commented during the graduation ceremony, “Our mission with Beauty for a Better Life is to improve lives through inclusive beauty. Beauty can play a central role in helping vulnerable, underprivileged, or marginalised people to regain their self-esteem, develop confidence and improve their wellbeing. This year, we are pleased to share that we have expanded our local programme to include a new professional makeup and digital beauty class, as part of promoting digital and financial inclusion.”

“It is humbling and inspiring to witness the hard work, dedication, and ambition shown by our 2023 beneficiaries – we wish them all the best as they embark on their beauty entrepreneurship journey. L’Oréal Malaysia is also honoured to partner with Women: girls again to bring this programme to life locally.”

Izza Izelan, Executive Director of WOMEN: girls, and the partner NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) for the second consecutive year, shared her thoughts, "The collaboration with L’Oréal Malaysia has been a remarkable journey, and we are thrilled to see the impact it has brought on these women. We believe in the power of education and transformation, and this programme is a prime example of that.”

The program was developed in response to help the beneficiaries, many of whom were from lower income groups. The beneficiaries were given access not only to skillsets but also a chance to develop interpersonal skills crucial for

serving customers in the beauty industry. A game-changing module within the newly developed professional makeup classes gave beneficiaries a chance to develop a digital portfolio of their work in the social media realm.

The graduation is a major milestone for the beneficiaries, as many have come from near and far to embark on a journey of self-actualisation through the program. In only three months, they picked up invaluable skills that will enable them to pursue a career in the beauty industry – be it as a professional hairdresser or make-up artist.

L’Oréal Malaysia launched the Beauty for a Better Life program locally in 2016 and has helped over 150 women by setting up new training centres, training the trainers, providing motivational training, holding masterclasses with L’Oréal Professionel and L’Oréal Paris, and aiding in job matching after participants graduate.
