L'Oréal's commitment to ethical jasmine sourcing in Egypt

L’Oréal is committed to respecting and protecting human rights, and we believe that all forms of human rights’ abuses are unacceptable.
We expect our suppliers, including fragrance houses, to act in a responsible and ethical way.

Following the last results of our on-going monitoring process in 2023 and to drive systemic change in support of local communities, we have been a key player in setting up a coalition, in partnership with the Egyptian government, the fragrance houses and other industry partners.
This coalition is being led by the Fair Labor Association and the International Labour Organization, as part of their flagship 'Harvesting the Future - Jasmine in Egypt' project.

Since the launch of Harvesting the Future – Jasmine in Egypt in mid-2024, we have achieved significant progress, focusing on 3 main areas:

  • A draft Labor Code enhancing child protection is under review in the Egyptian legislature
  • Direct support to jasmine-producing villages: Field-level activities to address the root causes of child labor in 7 key villages, targeting 18,500 workers and families, include awareness campaigns, financial support and literacy training, protective equipment distribution, medical services, and field monitoring (day and night) to address child labor and promote access to financial services
  • A fair compensation methodology is being implemented

Moving forward, Harvesting the Future will expand efforts to develop activities for children, facilitate access to childcare and education continue to provide economic empowerment and financial inclusion opportunities; and continue awareness-raising activities throughout the community.
